Sheffield Bus: These are the changes to the public transport timetables for Christmas
A number of changes will come into play on public transport in Sheffield over the holiday season, and passengers have been urged to familiarize themselves with the changed timetables to ensure they don’t get caught.
Tim Taylor, Director of Public Transport Operations at the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), said: “Public transport services will operate differently during Christmas and New Years in South Yorkshire. We remind passengers to plan their trip in advance and to check the holiday hours, as well as the opening hours of our interchanges and Park and Ride sites.

“We ask everyone to follow government travel guidelines when using public transportation, to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Remember to wear a face cover unless you are exempt, keep windows open to let in as much fresh air as possible, and wash or sanitize your hands frequently, so everyone can travel safely this holiday season.
In some cases, the last departures will be earlier than usual or the service will be limited.
Which bus, tram and tram-train services will change?
Between Monday December 20 and Monday January 3, most local bus services will follow Saturday schedules with additional services in the morning. Services will end early on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.
The tram-trains will run at a revised frequency from Friday 24 December, to resume regular services on Tuesday 4 January. The timetables will be available on the Supertram website.
Planned engineering work will affect rail services during the holiday season and passengers should check the National Rail Inquiries website before traveling.
From Christmas Eve to Monday, January 3, travel information will be available at revised times between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. via Twitter @TSYalerts or Traveline 01 709 51 51 51.
The service will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Free parking will be offered at Park and Ride sites in Sheffield on Boxing Day and New Years – passengers pay the cost of the trip on the tram.

There will be no bus, tram, train or tram services in South Yorkshire with the exception of the Stagecoach Yorkshire service for XPO employees serving Barnsley and Rotherham.
The day after Christmas
Special bus services funded by the Sheffield Bus Partnership will operate in Sheffield on Boxing Day. The trams will also operate a special festive service on the Blue and Yellow lines.
Trains will run in limited service.
There will be no bus or tram services to Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley.
New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day
Most bus, streetcar, and light rail services will follow a Saturday schedule with an early end on New Years Eve.
Special bus services funded by Sheffield City Council will run in Sheffield on New Years Day. Trams (blue and yellow routes only) and the tram train will operate with a revised timetable.
There will be no bus service to Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley on New Years Day, with the exception of the Stagecoach Yorkshire service for XPO employees serving Barnsley and Rotherham.
All usual services will resume on Tuesday January 4th.
