Rawalpir Lighthouse: Recently, Union Minister of Ports, Navigation and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Rawalpir Lighthouse in Mandvi. According to the Ministry of Ports, Navigation and Waterways, the speed of the maritime industry is accelerating with the speed of the Gati Shakti program, which was recently launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The inauguration of the Rawalpir Lighthouse in Mandvi will not only increase the port facility, but also give a boost to tourism, the ministry said. The Union Minister of Ports, Navigation and Waterways was joined by MP Vinod Chavda, MP Virendrasinh Jadeja, other officials and dignitaries.
After inaugurating the lighthouse, Sonowal said his ministry was developing 75 lighthouses across the country as tourist destinations. By the end of this year, the Veraval, Dwarka and Gopnath lighthouses will be completed and 17 other lighthouses will also be developed in the state of Gujarat in PPP (public-private partnership) mode.
Meanwhile, the Minister of the Union of Ports, Navigation and Waterways laid the foundation stone a few days ago for various projects to increase the capacity of the port of Deendayal in Kandla, including:
• Two dome-shaped Godowns to be developed within a year. This will increase the covered storage capacity by 1.45 lakh metric ton at a cost of Rs 36 crore.
• Oil jetty number 8 at Old Kandla, valued at Rs 99 crore, which will be developed over an 18-month period and will increase the port’s optimum capacity by 3.50 MMTPA and reduce the waiting time for ships. .
• Development of a parking area for trucks or vehicles as well as ancillary facilities such as a garage, canteen, rest shelter, etc .; being installed at these gates at a cost of Rs 14.59 crore.
• The modernization of the existing pipeline network at a cost of Rs 126.50 crore has also been resumed. This will increase the optimum capacity from 8 to 23.8 MMTPA.
