The Service Excellence Foundation (SEF), under the auspices of the Ghana Tourism Federation and in partnership with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has launched the second edition of National Tourism Customer Service Week.

The week-long event, to be held October 3-7, 2022, is themed “Improving Customer Experience Through Excellence”.

Mr. Caleb Kofie, Founder and Executive Director of SEF, said the primary objective of the initiative is to develop, support and promote service excellence initiatives through industry research, advocacy and training of human resources in the hospitality sector.

“We fully believe that it is normal as an industry to take a break in October to appreciate the employees and customers of our industry.”

“We would take stock of the challenges of delivering customer service within our business establishments and improve them through strategic and sustainable training programs to improve excellence,” he said.

Mr. Akwasi Agyemang, Managing Director of GTA, speaking at the launch, urged hospitality industry players to improve their customer service to tourists.

He congratulated SEF for this initiative and urged companies in the tourism sector to capitalize on technology to improve their customer service.

“I believe that it is not all over and that industry practitioners are doing their part. We are seeing service improvements across the board, but there is still a long way to go,” he said.

Mr. Agyemang added that private and public entities should work together to improve the delivery of their various services, thereby selling Ghana in a positive light to the outside world.

Mrs. Stella Appenteng, former President of the Ghana Tourism Federation, welcomed the growth of the sector but stressed the importance of improving customer service in all tourist destinations.

She said industry players had a role to play in improving customer support services in Ghana and urged them to serve as key players in the continued development of the industry.

As part of the launch, a forum was also organized where representatives of different business organizations had the chance to learn from each other by sharing ideas.

National Customer Service Week 2022 would see employees in the tourism and hospitality sectors being appreciated for their efforts as well as challenges detected while finding solutions for them.
